The first time I did my makeup up I was 25 years old. Before that I was really stuck on being natural. Being dark skin came with a lot of hardships growing up. From people just knowing you got nappy hair or you’re loud and ghetto. It was rare to see dark women with make up that matched their skin. I always saw them wearing blue eye shadows and red lip stick and I vowed to never be the clown in the room. I think the year before I started doing it myself I went out with some friends and we got our make up done at the MAC counter and I had mixed feelings about it because I just felt I could’ve gotten better. The eyebrows was huge but the look was nice just was too much for my first time. And I didn’t have my make up done again for a long time til I did it myself. When I did it I went to a party with my cousin and got so many compliments on how pretty I was and that my brows was bomb. After doing it myself a few time and getting compliments on how natural it looked I was like maybe this is something I can do for money. Once I started, I started with women that had never had their make up done before. I figured it would be good because they don’t know what they talking about and neither do I, we could learn together and we did just that. Over the years I have learned so much from actually doing the work and I’m glad I started.
